EXPERIENCE PAYS OFF FOR NOEL DOWLER

August 8, 2011. Sherwood Park, Alberta’s Noel Dowler returned to action in the #5 EMCO Dodge during round number eight of the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at one of the most famous race weekends in Canada, the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres. Though limited in his stock car racing events, Dowler’s previous experience of racing in the rain would prove beneficial.

For the Saturday afternoon practice session the #5 EMCO Dodge team’s mission as usual was to make sure the car handled well for the eighteen year old driver on a tight race track. “The team did a good job with the car and I was able to get settled right away” said Dowler.

For qualifying Dowler took a cautious approach with the #5 EMCO Dodge once again. “I didn’t mind starting near the back because the first couple of corners can be pretty hairy” said Dowler. “I wanted to make sure we got through okay” he added.

The worry for teams became reality Sunday when rain soaked the circuit at Trois Rivieres. However racing in the rain was nothing new for Dowler. “We used to race Karts in the rain all the time” explained Dowler “so I was confident I could handle it” he said.

Dowler did a very nice job maneuvering the 2,800 pound stock car around the tough track in adverse conditions. The falling however caused a few issues. “Despite using fans to keep the windshield clear it fogged up and I had to pit and let the team make some repairs to the #5 EMCO Dodge” he stated. “Once I got back out and I could see properly we ran really well and had a lot of fun” said the driver.

The water would ultimately end the day early for the #5 EMCO Dodge when it started to cause electrical issues. “The gauges started to go so instead of waiting for a big problem I made a stop and we had to park the car so as not to cause any further damage” said the driver. “We learned so much again this weekend and we’ll be even stronger at the next race in Montreal” he stated.

Once again Dowler and the #5 EMCO Dodge made an appearance an EMCO Dealer prior race, stopping at the Trois Rivieres location. “We had another great turnout” said Dowler. “It was really nice to meet so many people and we’re looking forward to the next couple of appearances prior to Montreal” he added.

The next event of the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule for Noel Dowler takes place August 5-7 at the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres in Trois Rivieres, Quebec. Dowler will participate in a total of five road and street course events, along with the two oval track races at Motoplex Speedway in Vernon, BC and Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon for a total of seven races. All of the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series races will be broadcast on TSN. Check local listings for times in your area. For more information about Noel Dowler Jr. log onto www.apollomotorsports.ca

NOEL DOWLER MAKES FIRST NASCAR OVAL START

July 24, 2011. Sherwood Park, Alberta’s Noel Dowler was back in action for round number six of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this past weekend at Motoplex Speedway near Vernon, BC. After three races on road courses Dowler made his first ever series start on an oval track and showed good progress in the #5 EMCO Dodge as the day moved on.

Dowler’s first laps of the day on the half mile oval in BC’s Okanagan Valley were during the afternoon practice session as he set out to get comfortable in the #5 EMCO Dodge and get used to the track. During the practice session Dowler was contacted by another car and spun. While he did manage to keep the car from contacting the concrete wall a problem with the engine may have occurred and the team made an engine swap before the 300 lap race. “It’s too bad that something that wasn’t our fault caused the team to have so much work but it’s just something that happens in racing” said Dowler.

The #5 EMCO Dodge completed the work but unable to make a qualifying attempt Dowler was forced to start at the tail end of the field. “It’s not fun to start at the back but our objective here was to run as many laps as possible to learn as much as possible” said Dowler. “We could do that no matter what our starting spot was” he added.

As the green flag waved Dowler began his night of learning in the #5 EMCO Dodge and as the laps ticked off Dowler grew more and more comfortable and confident. “It was amazing how much I learned over the course of the race” explained Dowler. “How to run the inside and the outside, how to run in traffic and make a pass, it was really great” he added.

The #5 EMCO Dodge driver was equally enthusiastic about his first ever NASCAR race outing on a very challenging oval track. “I really liked it” said the young racer. “I just tried to be really consistent which is what you have to do at these tracks and especially such a long race. I’m looking forward to getting back at it in a couple of days in Saskatoon” he stated.

The next event of the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule for Noel Dowler takes place on Wednesday July 27th at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon, SK.

Lessons Learned For Dowler In Toronto

July 11, 2011. Sherwood Park, Alberta’s Noel Dowler returned to action in round number five of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this past weekend on the streets of Toronto. As part of the Toronto Indy weekend Dowler looked to continue his growth and gain more experience at the wheel of the #5 EMCO Dodge on the temporary street course.

Dowler is still getting used to the handling characteristics of these nearly 3,000 pound stock cars and learned the hard way that it’s extremely difficult to slow and stop the cars from about 150 mph on the long lakeshore road straightaway during the only practice session. “I was going too quickly into corner number three and the car went through the corner and into the run off area” said Dowler.

Sadly there was extensive damage to the #5 EMCO Dodge and the team would be forced to spend the rest of the afternoon making repairs and miss the qualifying session. “It’s not so much that we didn’t get to qualify” explained Dowler, “but I really wanted to get as much time on the track as possible” he stated.

Dowler would start the #5 EMCO Dodge at the tail end of the field for the 100km with the mission of finishing the race and absorbing as much information as he could. “I just wanted to watch the experienced drivers and learn from them and improve with each lap” said Dowler.

As the race progressed Dowler did exactly that. He showed racing smarts to never put the #5 EMCO Dodge into an uncomfortable position and continued the learning process. Noel Dowler also had the opportunity to learn from a familiar coach. His father Kevin Dowler was asked to relive another injured driver during the race and Noel was able to watch the savvy veteran. “It was really great” said the younger Dowler. “I got to follow him for quite a few laps and really learned a lot about how to handle the car” he stated.

The next event of the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule for Noel Dowler takes place Saturday July 23rd at Motoplex Speedway near Vernon, BC. Dowler will participate in a total of five road and street course events, along with the two oval track races at Motoplex Speedway in Vernon, BC and Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon for a total of seven races.
