A season of firsts for Jason White

October 20, 2011. Sun Peaks, British Columbia racer Jason White and the #21 A & W Dodge team had a season to remember in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. This year White forged a bold new partnership with Derek Lynch and the Kawartha Speedway Group and obtained powerful Dodge horsepower from DJK Racing and the results were all positive.

White made the changes to focus on his on track performance while allowing Lynch to lead the team as Crew Chief. And with the addition of more powerful motors White felt they would be a stronger team in 2011. “By defining roles and allowing me to concentrate on the driving I knew we’d be better and the results were there right away” said White.

In the second race of the season White scored a top ten finish at the new Circuit ICAR in the #21 A & W Dodge and backed it up with another top ten at Delaware Speedway. “For us to get our first top ten at a new circuit was great” said the driver. “And then to back it up at Delaware, a track I’ve never finished higher than fifteenth at was a good sign early on” he added.

At the very challenging Mosport International Raceway road course White would score his best career finish with a spectacular sixth place result in the #21 A & W Dodge. “I couldn’t believe it” said White. “The car was running great, we’d come together really well as a team and it was really satisfying to get that kind of finish on this track” he concluded.

In the middle of the season the #21 A & W Dodge team would some struggles. Mechanical difficulties and some tough racing luck wouldn’t allow Jason to claim the finishes they were capable of. “After the western swing where we had some tough races Derek really stepped up” explained White. “He told me that he needed more feedback about the car so that he could make changes to improve it and unless that happened we were going to struggle” he stated.

At round eight of the 2011 series the #21 A & W Dodge team was back on their game under the toughest possible conditions. At the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres for the first time ever a series race took the green flag in the rain. White used all of his skills to navigate through the extreme conditions and other competitors to score another top ten result.

The #21 A & W Dodge driver would receive a jolt of reality at round number ten in Barrie. White was clipped by another driver and crashed hard into the wall. “That was a big hit” said White. “I found out after the other driver had a mechanical failure and just sent me into the wall. A hard hit but I was okay”

Once again the #21 A & W Dodge team would have to dig deep to bounce back. Forced into a back-up car for the final race of the year White would again show his mettle and drive to a top ten finishing position, a strong effort to close out the season.

The result was a season of firsts for Jason White and the #21 A & W Dodge team. Five top ten finishes in a year, a sixth place result at Mosport for his best career finish in the series and an eighth place finish in the overall championship standings. “We definitely met all of our goals for the season” said White. “Now we have even higher goals for 2012. We know there were a few races where we can improve and better” he added.

Though the season has been over for only a month White is already anxious to get moving on next year. “I’m still so pumped up from our year and how this partnership came together I can’t wait to get going” said an enthusiastic White. “We have such a great partnership with A & W Canada, I’m proud to represent them and help promote Cruising for a Cause and I’m really excited about the future” he stated.

It was recently announced Jason White was voted the Most Popular Driver in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. White will be in Charlotte, NC to accept the award at the Night of Champions Awards Gala on Saturday evening.

Non Stop Action For DJ Kennington At Phoenix

This past weekend former NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion DJ Kennington competed in both the NASCAR Nationwide and the K & N Pro Series West events at Phoenix International Raceway. Kennington piloted the #80 MacDonald Motorsport entry in the Nationwide series, and the #81 car from Bill McAnally Racing in the K & N event. Both cars featured sponsorship backing from Northern Provincial Pipelines, Whitemud Mechanical, Clark Construction and Mahindra Tractors. It was a long and hectic weekend of activity, but also a successful venture for everyone involved.

The first on track activity on the newly reconfigured and resurfaced track was Thursday afternoon with Nationwide Series practice. Friday was a full day of practice laps beginning with the K & N Pro Series. “I like racing at Phoenix and the Thursday session gave us some time to feel out the new track” said Kennington. “Friday we worked on set up for both cars to make them faster on the new track” he added.

Saturday featured back to back qualifying sessions, first in the K & N Series. Kennington posted a very solid lap time and would start the race 23rd. In the Nationwide event Kennington rolled off 34th at the start. “We were struggling a bit with the Nationwide car” explained Kennington. “Our plan was to make adjustments during the race” he stated.

A crash on lap one of the Nationwide race sent the field scrambling and Kennington made it through unscathed. In the first few laps Kennington maneuvered his #80 entry forward gaining eight positions. Unfortunately his day would end early with a right front tire going down sending him hard into the wall. “It was a tough break” said the driver. “We were just trying to stay out of trouble but it found us” he added.

Kennington was back in action a short while later as the K & N Pro Series West race began. After several early caution flags Kennington began moving forward in the field and by the half way point was running fourteenth. “We just took it easy early on and grabbed the spots if they were there” said Kennington.

During the second half of the race Kennington continued his march forward and moved inside the top-ten. The race stayed green for the final twenty laps and Kennington would cross the finish line eleventh. “If we had one more caution to help us with track position we would have finished event better” said Kennington after the race.

The exciting double header weekend of action at Phoenix was the result of tremendous support and cooperation from a number of supporters. “I can’t thank all of the sponsors enough” said Kennington. “Dwight Kennedy from Northern Provincial Pipelines made the first call and almost immediately we had Clark Construction, Whitemud Mechanical and of course Mahindra Tractors join in to support both teams as well, we wouldn’t be here without them”.

DJ Kennington is also very appreciative of the efforts from both race teams. “I worked with Randy MacDonald and MacDonald Motorsports for a long time and it was great to do it again. Bill McAnally Racing and their group of people are terrific. I want to thank everyone who came down here from Canada with me and worked non-stop all weekend too” said Kennington.

Outstanding race for Isabelle Tremblay at Wild Wing 300

September 11, 2011. NASCAR Canadian Tire Series driver Isabelle Tremblay from St. Hippolyte, Quebec is focused on claiming the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Rookie Championship. Her strong effort at Barrie Speedway in round ten of the series was a big step in achieving that goal.

An oil pressure problem would limit Tremblay to only a few laps during practice. Despite the setback Tremblay was confident. “I had never raced at Barrie but was improving every lap and the car was very strong” said Tremblay.

Barrie Speedway can be very difficult and the focus of the race was to reach the end with a solid finishing result. Tremblay began the 300 lap race cautiously from the 17th position. “I knew I had to take care of the car and the team kept reminding me to drive like they know I can” stated Tremblay.

The race would be littered with incidents resulting in a total of fifteen caution periods. All the while Tremblay maintained her composure despite contact from another driver. “I got turned around and that’s frustrating, I’m not going to take it anymore” said a determined Tremblay.

Still Tremblay would accomplish her mission gaining a total of six positions during the race. While she just missed another top ten finish, she did gain ground in the rookie of the year battle. “We did what we had to do today” Tremblay explained. “We had a very good finish and if not for getting hit would have been in the top ten” she added.

Team owner Dave Jacombs was very pleased with the outcome. “Our mission today was to get Isabelle to the end of the race” he stated. “I wanted her to race the track and learn and she did it perfectly. This result at a track she’s never seen before is an amazing result” he added.

Following round ten Isabelle Tremblay is second in the rookie standings, only two points from the lead. The next event for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series takes place Saturday September 17th at Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

Isabelle Tremblay is grateful for the impressive support of her many partners this season which include: Group Beton Brunet, ADF Diesel, Furniture World Salotti, Insulation Ippersiel, Canadian Tire St. Jerome, DB Imaging, La Pizzeria Etc. and Leaf Racewear.

Kennington tightens points battle

September 11, 2011. DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team returned to Barrie Speedway this past weekend for round number ten of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series looking to pick up their fourth win at the track. While they didn’t score the victory, Kennington did tighten up the point’s race for the overall championship.

The day began as expected when Kennington posted the quickest time around the very tricky 1/3 mile oval track in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge. “The car was really good and it got even better with the adjustments we made during practice” said Kennington.

DJ would start the 300 lap race in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge from the fifth position and easily keep pace with the leaders. “So many things happen at this track you have to be sure and survive the 300 laps” explained Kennington. “I didn’t want to do anything risky too early” he added.

Following several caution periods for incidents the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team made their first pit stop of the night for fuel. “We wanted to have track position later in the race” said Kennington about the strategy. “With a few other caution periods we decided to also make stops for tires and be able to run the rest of the night without stopping” he stated.

The rough racing continued with several incidents. Meantime Kennington continued to keep the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge in position for a late charge. In the late stages of the event however Kennington was hit from behind and spun out of contention. “I know you are going to have contact on this small track, but I feel I was deliberately moved out of the way and that’s wrong” said Kennington.

Despite the setback Kennington charged hardest in the closing laps and salvaged a seventh place result in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge. It also tightened the championship fight with still two races remaining. “We had a chance to really tighten it up until that spin, but we made some progress and we’re off to Riverside to win” stated the driver.

With the seventh place finish Kennington pulls to within 69 points of the overall championship lead. Round eleven of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will take place Saturday September 17th at Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
